Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt, Dow & Katz P.C. has represented people with the most serious injuries imaginable, up to and including fatality cases. We are proud of our work in obtaining very significant awards for these clients. Listed below are some representative cases:

Sixty-two year old crane operator who suffered multiple crush injuries requiring amputation of one leg. These injuries were sustained when a tower under construction toppled onto his crane.  JGBD&K effectively presented the horrific experience this man endured and the effect his injuries had on his life.

Sixty-one year old truck driver who suffered partial amputation of his foot when the load of steel billets he was delivering came loose due to buyer’s carelessness.

Elderly woman who suffered deep laceration wound due to the negligence of a gardening center customer. Even though the wound was local, JGBD& K was able to show that the resulting scarring caused nerve problems throughout her body.

Young man was terribly burned when he tried to put out a fire that started in a barrel of floor lacquer at a construction site. This case involved multiple defendants and multiple experts. Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt, Dow & Katz's investigation revealed that the barrel ignited because of the carelessness of a public utility. The utility was brought into the case and paid most of the compensation.

Man hit by car developed serious and permanent neurological damage. Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt, Dow & Katz was able to establish that the collision caused his Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. Settled in the course of trial.

Woman motorcycle passenger who was hit broadside by a car, resulting in leg amputation.

Health care professional who was injured due to medical negligence when a surgical sponge was left in her abdomen, resulting in infection, multiple surgeries and loss of digestive function.

Patient whose crushed leg was not properly treated by orthopedic surgeon, resulting in a wound infection the signs of which the surgeon ignored. Patient suffered major loss of function in his leg.

While performing surgery, surgeon nicked and weakened patient's arterial wall, causing a delayed hemorrhage. Patient required multiple operations to repair the damage, and was left with significant disability.

Man who worked with the homeless who was killed on the way to work in multiple truck collision on I-95 in Bridgeport.

Woman injured by medical negligence when her rectum was inadvertently punctured by a laparoscope.

Nurse's aide who suffered significant knee injury when lumber fell off the truck in front of her, forcing her to jam on her brakes and hit her knee on the dashboard on I-91 North in North Haven.

Man who was killed when struck by a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on I-95.

Medical researcher who was knocked down and attacked by two dogs in Hamden, suffering brain damage because his head hit the pavement when he fell.

Woman was bitten and knocked down by dog, breaking her leg. She suffered a pulmonary embolism and died in the hospital.

Older woman whose ankle was badly injured when struck by a shopping pallet at a home improvement store

Truck driver who was making delivery to a warehouse in Greenwich and stepped into a hole in the pavement, seriously injuring his knee and requiring successive knee surgeries. Because of the injury to his "clutching" knee, client was unable to return to long-haul trucking.

Small child who was electrocuted and killed when he gained access to a transformer that was not safely gated.

Young executive who was having a home built for himself and his wife. The contractor stacked a pile of wallboard on end instead of flat. The pile collapsed, crushing the man and dislocating his hip, requiring prosthetic hip joint.

Motorcyclist who sustained serious head and pelvis injuries when a driver made a left turn in front of him, because she "never saw him."

Woman whose car is struck by truck in a parking lot, in a low speed collision, develops temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), requiring multiple operations.

Woman hit while standing in phone booth by drunk driver and rendered paraplegic. Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt, Dow & Katz was able to hold driver and telephone company liable.

Baby who was badly brain damaged by overdose of drug given by hospital.

Older man who was paralyzed in the course of operation to remove cancer. Even though client was already dying of cancer, Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt, Dow & Katz was able to show how paralysis caused by surgeon's error diminished the quality of his life in his last days.

Fourteen year old boy who was killed instantly when he was crushed in an elevator shaft.

These cases are simply a sampling of some of the more seriously injured clients who have entrusted their claims to Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt, Dow & Katz. The firm does not believe that advertising claiming to have won "millions of dollars for our clients" is either ethical or meaningful, since all cases are different and each client's case must be decided on its own merits. Therefore, we have not given the dollar amounts for which each case resolved.
